BEIJING--20 Oct--PRNewswire/InfoQuest The Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO), in collaboration with a group of retailers, organized its campaign based on the theme of "Say Yes to Sustainable Palm Oil" in City Shop, Beijing on August 10th and later in Rainbow Shop, Shenzhen on August 29th. This marked the second time that RSPO held events aimed at consumers to promote the use of sustainable palm oil in China. Through a variety of interactive activities, the consumers were encouraged to purchase green products as well as adopt sustainable lifestyles and integrate the values of sustainability into all aspects of their daily lives, such as food, clothing, housing, transportation and recreation. While adopting a healthier way of life, people can also join the RSPO in supporting rainforest conservation and help to better protect our planet Earth. RSPO fully promotes sustainable lifestyles through online and offline platforms With the support of the UN-China Sustainable Consumption Partnership and the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP), China's annual Sustainable Consumption Week was jointly held by the China Chain Store and Franchise Association (CCFA), the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) and the China Sustainable Retail Roundtable (CSRR). For the occasion, consumers and companies acted in collaboration to help further encourage the implementation of sustainable consumption policies and develop greater consumer awareness about sustainability. During this Sustainable Consumption Week, RSPO members and collaborators launched an online H5 interactive activity, held under the theme of "Say Yes to Sustainable Palm Oil." This fun and highly engaging activity helped consumers easily understand the indispensability of sustainable palm oil and the damage it can cause to tropical rainforests when produced unsustainably, thereby raising consumers' awareness of sustainable consumption. Along with the online activity, the RSPO also organized offline events in both Beijing and Shenzhen, inviting members, media and consumers to participate in the creation of their own handmade lip balms. This fascinating on-site activity provided consumers with the opportunity to closely experience the process of making this product and thereby understand the importance of sustainable palm oil by recognizing that palm oil remains an indispensable raw material for lip balms. Consumers actively participated in the activities held by the RSPO, which allowed more people to know about the RSPO's role as one of the leading contributors to the promotion of sustainable palm oil, and at the same time motivated them to contribute to the sustainable development of the environment. The 2017 Sustainable Consumption Week took place in several Chinese cities, encouraging consumers to embrace the values of sustainable consumption and to adopt a healthier and better green lifestyle. As one of the featured activities during this Sustainable Consumption Week, the RSPO's events attracted much attention and support from the public. Despite difficulties, RSPO spares no effort to protect the world's natural environment Rising global demand for palm oil, the most widely used vegetarian oil in the world, has led to a series of ecological and social problems. In some major palm oil producing regions, such as Southeast Asia, palm trees have suffered from excessive cutting and the acreage for palms has been on the decline due to weak awareness of sustainable development, which may threaten the very existence of tropical rainforests and even give rise to other international problems, such as global warming and the loss of biodiversity. While actively boosting the global development of sustainable palm oil, the RSPO has been paying close attention to the presence of palm oil in the Chinese market. It is committed to advancing the supply chain for sustainable oil on an international scale in order to eventually protect the environment, increase productivity and promote the sustainable development of human society. According to a spokesperson for the RSPO, the organization will spare no efforts to contribute to the sustainable development of human society and work towards making sustainable palm oil become the global norm. In addition, the RSPO also expects to welcome more consumers and companies joining the RSPO to facilitate the sustainable development of palm oil and to see more consumers purchasing sustainable palm oil products with the RSPO trademark in the future in order to make joint efforts to promote sustainable development and create a green planet. About RSPO In response to the global demand for developing sustainable palm oil, the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) was established in 2004 with the objective of promoting the production and use of sustainable palm oil products through credible global standards and engagement of stakeholders. The RSPO was registered in Zurich, Switzerland, while the secretariat is currently based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, with liaison offices in Jakarta, London and Beijing. As a not-for-profit association, the RSPO unites stakeholders from seven sectors of the palm oil industry -- palm oil growers, palm oil processors or traders, consumer goods manufacturers, retailers, banks and investors, environmental or nature conservation NGOs, and social or developmental NGOs -- for the purpose of implementing and developing global standards for sustainable palm oil. www.rspo.org www.china.rspo.org
