Sands China Brings David Beckham Back to Macao

Bangkok--25 Apr--Jigsaw Communication Interactions with local university students, company team membersand guests at The Venetian Macao (Macao, April 25, 2014) –Global icon David Beckham visited Sands China Ltd.’s Cotai Strip Resorts Macao for the second time in less than six months, interacting up-close with a group of Macao university students and Sands China team members at The Venetian Macao Thursday. Beckham made his debut appearance at The Venetian Macao last November to announce a business partnership in Asia with Las Vegas Sands Corp., the parent company of Sands China Ltd. Organised by the Sands China Community Academy, around 100 students from the University of Macau, the Macau University of Science and Technology, the Macao Polytechnic Institute and the University of Saint Joseph were given the chance to enjoy Beckham’s second visit to Macao. The excited group eagerly awaited one of the world’s most famous sportsmen to appear in front of them and share his football stories and experiences,warmly welcoming the smartly dressed and smiling Beckham with rapturous applause. The emcee then led a question and answer session, where Beckham shared his best World Cup experiences, and relayed some of his biggest challenges and successes in his professional football career. The talk was inspirational to the students, who were encouraged to aim high and persevere in achieving their goals and dreams. The rapt audience of youth listened attentivelyto the global star, who has a passion for supporting young people through sports and community events. Afterwards, the students enjoyed photo opportunities together with Beckham to commemorate the visit. The Sands China Community Academy seeks to leverage on Sands China superstar events, which often feature some of Asia’s and the world’s biggest names of music, sportand screen, to organise community outreach activities in Macao. Sands China Community Academy events are a way for the company to give back to the Macao community, by providing opportunities for locals to interact with incredibly talented and accomplished individuals, offering them inspirational and educational experiences. Besides giving the local community an opportunity to interact with one of the world’s most iconic men, Sands China arranged for over 140 of its employees to meet and engage with Beckham the same afternoon at The Venetian Macao. The invited team members included the winners and nominees from Sands China’s ‘Because We Care’ Team Member Awards, ‘Because We Care’ Ambassadors, company car lucky draw winners, the top six Sands China Care Ambassadors, and the winners from the company-wide talent contest Start Your Show 2014. In addition to presenting prizes and awards to the team members, Beckham thanked staff for their hard work and gave a brief inspirational talk. A group photo with Beckham was also taken at the end of the event. “This was one of those unique experiences that money just can’t buy,” one of the participants said afterward.“It’s great that the company was able to arrange something like this for us, and I feel really lucky to have been able to participate.” During his first visit to The Venetian Macao last November, Sands China also organised a community event where Beckham shared his words of inspiration with 100 local youth from the Macau Special Olympics football team, Macau U16 Football Team, Be Cool Center of Association of Rehabilitation of Drug Abusers of Macau, Macau Child Development Association, Cradle of Hope Association, and Young Men’s Christian Association of Macau.
