The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET)’s 10th anniversary “SET in the City 2014” was well-received by investors, with over 120,000 participants and 21,873 transactions made during the four-day event, especially young working people. More than half of the participants were novice visitors attending seminars and visiting exhibition booths, proving Thailand’s continuous investment upbeat mood.
SET President Kesara Manchusree said, “This year’s SET in the City, under ‘The year of investment to change your life forever’ theme, has gained amazing feedback, beyond our expectations. Savers and investors have shown that they are now ready to change investment perspectives and build future investment plan. It was phenomenal that the four-day event could attract 120,000 participants, consisting of 40 percent current investors and 60 percent prospects. They attended a series of seminars by top financial experts on two stages, and shopped for special values at booths from various banks, securities and insurance firms. Meanwhile, they spent time learning new products and technical know-how from SET booth, Greater Mekong Subregion capital markets and other institutional booths. The seminars and workshops gained warm welcome from participants.”
During the event, out of the total 21,873 transactions, compared to last year, the investment in equity rose 40 percent to 8,216 transactions. The derivatives and mutual funds were similar to last year’s, with 1,174 accounts from derivatives and 8,225 from mutual funds worth THB 937 million, resulting in 27 percent increase in value. The remaining items were from other investment instruments. Besides, SET introduced SET Sawasdee, SET’s Customer Relationship Management tools providing customized information and activities for investors via SET’s channels, which received great attention from participants in the event. This remarkable achievement has encouraged SET to continue providing information and educational activities in order to expand quality investor base towards a sustainable capital market.
SET in the City 2014 was held at Siam Paragon shopping center in downtown Bangkok during November 20-23.
