Thai bourse announces winners of 2015 Young Financial Star contest

Bangkok--1 Sep--SET The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) and Thailand Futures Exchange (TFEX), together with Muang Thai Life Assurance pcl, PTT pcl, Kasikornbank pcl and three key institutions in the capital market, have announced the winners of "Young Financial Star Competition 2015" (YFS), consisting of four young financiers from Thammasat University and Chulalongkorn University, as well as one student teams. The competition, held for the 13th year, searches for the most competent young financiers from university students nationwide. This year, the contest attracted over 6,485 students from 96 universities nationwide. Out of these, 329 students from 39 universities passed the selection round and were provided intensive training courses to enhance financial and investment expertise. SET President Kesara Manchusree said, "This competition is one of SET's social and educational activities to craft 'quality capital market personnel' with the real investment and finance know-how, benchmarking with international standard, while building social responsibility mindset, in order to shore up the foundation for Thai capital market sustainability." As YFS has contributed young talented professionals to the Thai capital market for 13 years, to-date there has been more than 56,000 students in the YFS project, a value-added contribution to the society. YFS 2015 has embraced a total of 185 students who successfully passed the Securities Investment Consultant license, while 153 earned the derivatives license. On top of this, 47 who made it to the final round were awarded special training and international tests consisting of Certified Investment and Securities Analyst course and Certified Financial Planner course for financial advisors. The YFS 2015 winners are 1. Palit Wonghirandecha from Thammasat University, as SET Investment Star 2. Thana-ek Laohapongchana from Thammasat University, as TFEX Derivatives Star, 3. Napatsara Earkasem from Chulalongkorn University as K-Expert Star, 4. Piriyapon Kongvanich from Thammasat University, as Muang Thai Insurance Star, and one student teams have been granted the PTT CSR Star Team. YFS 2015 project's process was carried out from March to August 2015, opening up opportunities, enabling the qualified youths to learn from intensive and challenging scenarios in finance and investment. The final round was held on August 30, 2015. The winners and first runner-ups were granted scholarships for financial study trips in Thailand and overseas. The total award value was THB 6 million (approx. USD 171,400). Academic support came from SET partners namely Association of Securities Companies, Thai Financial Planner Association and The Capital Market Development Fund Foundation.
