Colorcon, Inc., today announced the expansion of its Nutraficient(R), foodsupplement coating product line to include PVA-based, high-productivitysystems designed specifically for use on food supplements marketed within theEU.
European Commission Directive (2010/69/EU), already adopted in the UK,allows the use of existing additives in certain food supplement products. Theadditives now allowed for use include polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) and six gradesof polyethylene glycol (PEG). The EU Commission found that the use of PVA orPEG for the coating of food supplements in the form of capsules and tabletsare of no safety concern. The directive will be implemented by all memberstates by March 31, 2011.
