BRISTOL-MYERS SQUIBB ANNOUNCES MANAGEMENT CHANGES TO HELP DRIVE GROWTH AND ENHANCE SHAREHOLDER VALUE NEW YORK, Nov. 10 /PRNewswire-AsiaNet/-- Bristol-Myers Squibb Company(NYSE: BMY) today announced management changes designed to drive growth,promote innovation and achieve greater strategic focus for the future. The company has reorganized its core management team and also has formedthree new councils to oversee companywide innovation, strategy, and scienceand development. These councils will draw on the company's extensive and dynamic talentbase-- including its Board of Directors -- and play a key role in shaping itsfuture. All changes are effective December 1. Management changes include the naming of Donald J. Hayden, Jr., aspresident, Worldwide Medicines Group, and senior vice president of thecompany; Richard J. Lane, president, U.S. Medicines, will assume newresponsibilities for Worldwide Franchise Management and the U.S. and Japanconsumer medicines businesses; Christine A. Poon as president,InternationalMedicines; and John L. McGoldrick as president, Medical Devices Group. Hecontinues as senior vice president and general counsel. Michael F. Mee,senior vice president and chief financial officer, will take on additionalresponsibility for Global Business Services. Kenneth E. Weg, executive vice president, will join the newly formedOfficeof the Chairman. In this capacity, he will assist Mr. Heimbold withleadership development and operational issues, and provide guidance on theMedicines organization. Mr. Weg plans to retire in the year 2000. The company will also create three new councils to develop and helpinstitute significant ideas and initiatives that span all businesses. TheStrategic Council will consider strategic alternatives for the company. Itwill be led by Peter R. Dolan, who will also assume responsibility forOrganizational Effectiveness and become a senior vice president of thecompany.
