ASIANET: REGULATORY DEVELOPMENTS ON DERIVATIVES IN THAILAND

ข่าวต่างประเทศ Tuesday June 11, 1996 09:59 —Asianet Press Release

Bangkok--Jun 11--CCMS Throughout the decades of continued growth and expansion of the Thai economy, the government agencies have developed several rules and regulations to sustain high growth and to accomplish the goal of making Thailand a regional financial center. Additionally, the Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET), as one of the major institutions in the Thai capital market, has also developed and improved several areas of its operation in order to achieve its goal of being a regional stock exchange. The government agencies and the SET have recognized the necessity of introducing new hedging instruments to the Thai financial community. Both individual and institutional investors in Thailand and abroad will benefit greatly from derivative products should they apply these tools to hedge their investment risks appropriately with thorough understanding. The existence of derivative instruments in Thailand will also encourage foreign investment into the Thai capital market. As a result, market stability and competitiveness will be increased efficiently. To promote government policies towards the establishment of derivatives markets in Thailand, the Center for Capital Market Studies (CCMS) of the Stock Exchange of Thailand, therefore, organizes an International Conference on "Regulatory Developments on Derivatives in Thailand." The Conference is designed for top government officials and corporate executives in Thailand and abroad. The participants will have an opportunity to exchange their opinions and to network among each other. The Conference objectives are: 1. To enhance the understanding on regulatory frameworks on derivatives markets in Thailand. 2. To provide a forum for scholars and specialists to brainstorm their opinions on related topics. 3. To exchange views and ideas between government and private sectors. 4. To discuss experiences from other countries.
