Currently just two of Japan's fifty nuclear reactors are in operation. However, in light of the new safety regulations that were introduced earlier this month, it is possible that at least twelve more reactors are likely to be restarted in the near future. "Coal fired power plants are currently running at maximum capacity to provide the base load for Japan. The restarting of a number of nuclear reactors raises the question of how the country expects to meet its power demand requirements moving forward," said Louisa Pratt, Conference Manager, Coaltrans Conferences Ltd.
