BANGKOK, Thailand, Jan. 15 /PRNewswire-AsiaNet/ -- NakornthaiStrip Mill Public Company Limited ("NSM"), announced today that itshot mill facility in Chonburi, Thailand will remain closedtemporarily due to damage to certain electrical equipment sustainedfrom a lightning strike in early December. Following discussionswith the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand, NSM hasconcluded that it would not be safe or prudent to continueoperations at the hot mill until the damaged equipment has beenrepaired. The hot mill was previously scheduled to be closed forroutine maintenance from December 24, 1998 through January 6, 1999,and will remain closed from January 7, 1999 until electrical repairsare completed. NSM and its electrical equipment vendor estimatethat the repairs will take approximately eight weeks. NSM iscurrently in discussions with its insurance providers regardinginsurance coverage relating to the lightning strike. In addition, NSM has announced that on December 31, 1998 SteelDynamics, Inc. ("SDI") gave notice of termination of the agreementunder which SDI has been providing management advisory services andtechnical assistance to NSM Management Company LLC and NSM. SDIwill continue to provide services for a 90-day period while NSMpursues arrangements for any necessary technical and advisoryservices that SDI has been providing. SDI remains a shareholder ofNSM. NSM also announced that it is currently engaged in discussionswith certain U.S. holders of its 12-1/4% Senior Mortgage Notes Due2006 (the "Senior Notes") regarding defaults alleged by suchnoteholders to have occurred under the Indenture relating to theSenior Notes.
