SEATTLE, May 23 /PRNewswire/Asianet -- Asiana Airlines, one of Korea's two national carriers, took delivery of its 50th Boeing jetliner in ceremonies at Paine Field in Everett, Washington state, earlier today. This airplane, powered by twin General Electric It is estimated that 767s have carried 795 million passengers on more than 4.8 million flights since it first entered service on Sept. 8, 1982. Through first quarter 1997, Boeing had delivered 650 widebody 767 airplanes. Schedule reliability, an industry measure of departure from the gate within 15 minutes of scheduled time, is nearly 99 percent for the 767. Asiana Airlines was chartered by the Korean government in February 1988 and is part of the Kumho Group of related Kore Next year Asiana will take delivery of its first 777, with the first commercial flight scheduled to coincide with the airlines's 10th anniversary. Asiana plans to have a fleet of 100 jetliners by the year 2005.
