COSEINC, a well-known security consulting company, released the latest report evaluating the effectiveness of Windows XP security protection offered by eight leading security vendors in the market. The report shows that the overall XP vulnerability attack interception rate was 63.3% and 360 Safe Guard was the only program which successfully intercepted all attacks.

For their evaluation, COSEINC chose eight popular security software, including Avast, AVG, Avira, Bitdefender, Kaspersky and three from China: Kingsoft Antivirus, Tencent QQ Doctor and 360 Safe Guard.
COSEINC simulated attacks exploiting vulnerabilities with fifteen samples that occurred in the past five years relating to XP SP3, IE8 and Office2003 in a total of 120 attacks. As a result, the eight security software altogether successfully intercepted 76 attacks with an average rate of 63.3%.
In the evaluation, Avira successfully intercepted twelve attacking samples and Kaspersky intercepted eleven, while 360 Safe Guard withstood all the attacks without a single breach. Kingsoft Antivirus and Tencent QQ Doctor intercepted only five samples each and were positioned as No. 7 and No. 8, respectively.
