GENERAL MOTORS AND APL LOGISTICS INK DEAL FOR PARTS HANDLING APL WILL MANAGE JUST-IN-TIME ARRIVAL OF THOUSANDS OF PARTS PER CAR BANGKOK, Thailand, April 7 /PRNewswire-AsiaNet/ -- Celebrating the signing of a major logistics contract between General Motors Thailand (GMTH) and APL Logistics, officials of the two companies display two of the several thousand auto parts that GM will use to build 7-passenger Zafira compact vans beginning in May 2000 at a new plant outside of Bangkok. APL will manage the flow of all parts to the assembly line on a just-in-time basis, supporting a "lean materials management" system that will virtually eliminate intermediate warehousing.
