REDBACK NETWORKS STRENGTHENS ASIA PACIFIC TEAM EXPANSION FUELED BY STRONG DEMAND FOR BROADBAND ACCESS EQUIPMENT SINGAPORE, 5 JUNE 2000/PRNI-HK-AsiaNet/ - To meet strong demand growth for new access networks and broadband aggregation in Asia Pacific, Redback Networks (NASDAQ: RBAK), a leading high-speed networking equipment provider, has strengthened its in-region team with several senior appointments. Since May, more than ten executives have been added to Redback's office network in Australia, China, Hong Kong, Japan, Korea, Singapore, Taiwan, and Thailand. The beefed up team will continue to serve its customers in partnership with an extensive network of resellers and distributors that covers virtually every market in Asia. Redback's expansion is a direct result of the increase in demand for high bandwidth telecom services in Asia, including broadband access technologies such as Digital Subscriber Line (DSL), cable, and wireless. Sakina Dhilawala, research manager for Pyramid Research, said: "With the proliferation of services within the Internet space, consumers and enterprise users alike are projected to develop an insatiable appetite for broadband connectivity. Pyramid Research projects broadband usage in Asia Pacific to increase by about 300% from 1999 to 2004, to about 90 million subscribers. In addition, we expect that up to 20% of Asia's almost 290 million mobile subscribers will be net-enabled by 2004, with significantly higher bandwidth capabilities to handle the higher loads that future services will demand." "Redback Networks represents a new wave of networking equipment providers that is offering practical business solutions to carriers, service providers and enterprises," said Steve Young, Vice President, Asia Pacific Operations. "These businesses, especially in Asia, are interested in practical, easy to deploy solutions that have a direct, immediate benefit to their bottomline. That's why Asia Pacific is highly strategic to us. Some key appointments include: China Mr. Cui Yun joins Redback as sales manager for China, reporting to Ben Tay, area sales director for Greater China. Cui brings to his post over eight years of sales experience in China's infotech market. Prior to Redback he was 3Com's district manager for the company's Northern China telecom division. Japan Mr. Greig Bannister joins the Redback team in Japan as Network Consultant, responsible for network design, sales and system engineering, as well as customer support. A fluent Japanese speaker, Bannister began his career with Fujitsu Australia, building a strong technical background in networking and the Internet. Korea Mr. Kyu-Cheol Shin joins Redback as country manager for Korea, bringing with him more than ten years' experience in the country's rapidly evolving Internet industry. Shin was previously with Newbridge Korea, where he directed its sales and channel operations. Singapore Mr. David Ko is Redback's marketing director for the Asia-Pacific region. Ko has extensive experience in the public relations and marketing industry, having spent five years at management level with top multinational agencies including Hill and Knowlton and Edelman International. Prior to Redback, Ko was with Cisco where he managed the public relations program for the North Asia region including Korea, Taiwan, China and Hong Kong. Taiwan Mr. Richard Huang, a 15-year veteran of the industry, is Redback's newly appointed country manager for Taiwan. Before he joined Redback, Huang was the country manager of GRIC for Taiwan and Hong Kong, where he directed the company's co-operative activities with carriers and ISPs on VoIP (Voice over IP) and roaming businesses. Prior to GRIC, Huang was a key member of Cisco Systems' Taiwan sales team for four years. Said Steve Young: "With expanded operations, we are in a better position to meet our customers' needs, and continue building our success on theirs. As a matter of fact, over 200 carriers and service providers worldwide already rely on Redback for broadband deployment." In Asia, Redback has already announced several deals with major carriers earlier this year to supply its Subscriber Management Systems (SMS) for rapid deployment of broadband access and services. Key customers include Guangdong PTA, MOSCOM in Philippines, Singapore Telecom, Taiwan's Chunghwa Telecom and Telecom New Zealand, among others.
