Bangkok News Conference on Air Pollution in Asia BANGKOK, Thailand, Jan 30 /PRNewswire-AsiaNet/ -- Reducing vehicular pollution and improving air quality in Asia will be the focus of a three-day conference beginning on Tuesday, January 30 in Bangkok, Thailand. Government leaders and pollution control scientists from Thailand, India, China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Europe, and the United States will be prepared to discuss with reporters the big pollution issues, the proposed solutions and the policies that will bring cleaner air to some of the most unhealthy cities in the world. Rapid economic growth in Asia during the past decade has brought with it a dramatic rise in the number of motorcycles, cars, trucks and buses in urban areas, which has led to severe air-pollution problems. Health and economic impacts are being felt throughout the region. Many Asian nations are acting to combat this problem with programs designed to clean up transportation fuels and vehicles. More than 100 participants from 12 different countries will attend the Asian Vehicle Emission Control Conference to discuss solutions. All sessions at the three-day Conference will be open to the media.
