CHRISTCHURCH: General Cable New Zealand today announced it has signed an agreement to "acquire the shares of Brand Rex Australia, a major distributor of data and telecommunications cables in Australia", a company press release said. The purchase is expected to close on December 28, and provides General Cable New Zealand "with a major presence in the Australian market through its distribution facilities in Sydney, Brisbane, Melbourne and Perth".
