TOKYO: Chugai Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. is "exercising the early redemption option for all the Series # 5 Unsecured Convertible Bonds issued on July 5, 1994",it was announced today. The bond redemption has come about after the announcement on December 10, 2001, of the alliance between Chugai and F.Hoffman-La Roche Ltd., who are merging their pharmaceutical businesses in Japan.

TOKYO: Bio-pharmaceutical researchers Kyowa Hakko said today it has developed new technology for the creation of therapeutic antibodies. It will "serve as Kyowa's core technology ... with which we will be aggressively engaged in therapeutic antibody business", a press release said.

MOSCOW: Arms and military equipment export agency Rosoboronexport today announced it has "considerably increased the pace and volume of arms and military equipment sales in 2001" according to General Director Andrei Belyaninov. Rosoboronexport supplied arms to 45 countries, with China, India, Cyprus, Algeria, Greece, Egypt and Kuwait accounting for more than 90% of sales, a press release said.

CULVER CITY: Columbia Pictures' film "Ali," starring Wil Smith, debuted yesterday,"with $10,216,625 in box office receipts, claiming the title as the biggest Christmas Day opening ever, a media release said.
