In January 2002 artus GmbH was awarded a worldwide license for the commercial use of the Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR). This license authorizes the Hamburg biotechnology company, which specializes in pathogen detection, to manufacture and market diagnostic products that are based on PCR and that are intended for the detection of herpes viruses and other pathogens relevant to veterinary medicine.
artus is the first to offer its customers in diagnostic laboratories and hospitals worldwide licensed PCR kits for a multitude of viruses and bacteria. In addition to PCR detection procedures using gels, artus is concentrating its efforts on the latest Real-Time systems that enable exceptionally rapid, quantitative and reliable pathogen detection.
The PCR technology patented by Hoffmann La Roche was developed in the 1980s by Kary Mullis, who received the Nobel Prize in 1993. Compared to classical diagnostic methods, PCR, based on genetic copying mechanisms, provides for more rapid, sensitive and highly specific pathogen detection.
artus is a German biotechnology company and has specialized in pathogen diagnosis through the use of modern genetic procedures. As partner for increased microbiological safety levels, artus offers its customers in specialized laboratories and industry a wide range of products and services in specific detection systems. The main areas of application for these procedures are human medicine, veterinary medicine and the food industry, as well as research in biotechnology.
Established as an independent unit by the famous Bernhard-Nocht-Institut for tropical medicine (Hamburg/ Germany), artus has an experienced team of medical scientists, microbiologists, molecular scientists and chemists. The laboratories are equipped with cutting-edge technology, are authorized to handle disease-inducing pathogens in risk groups 1, 2 and 3** and comply with the strictest safety requirements for genetic technology processes.
