PHILADELPHIA: A study published in the August issue of the
Journal of Bone Mineral Research has shown that the new
osteoporosis drug Bonviva (ibandronate sodium) can
significantly reduce the incidence of fractures of the spine
when given once daily, but also with a dose-free interval of
more than 2 months, in women with post-menopausal osteoporosis.
This is the first time a bisphosphonate has shown fracture
efficacy when administered with a long dose-free interval.
