SINGAPORE, Nov. 9 -- Xinhua/ PRNewswire/ AsiaNet
BMW Group's data communications in Asia Pacific now supported by
SingTel's reliable and extensive network
Singapore Telecommunications Limited (SingTel) today announced that it has
signed a three-year multi-million dollar contract with the BMW Group.
The German-based BMW Group, famous for its automobile brands and a wide
range of business interests, has chosen SingTel to provide, manage and support
the company's telecommunications network throughout the Asia Pacific and back
to the headquarters in Munich.
The technology chosen is a solution based on SingTel's fully managed
ConnectPlus network. SingTel connects BMW offices in Asia Pacific to its Europe
headquarters. Communication between these offices located in various countries
is supported by SingTel's suite of data communications services such as
Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM), Frame Relay and Private Leased Circuits.
SingTel triumphed over stiff competition from other service providers and
successfully signed the deal with BMW. Its strong technical solution,
capabilities, competitive pricing, extensive presence and reliable
infrastructure throughout the Asia Pacific region helped SingTel bag the
contract.
Mr Chong Chin Kok, CEO (SingTel Global Offices), said: "SingTel is proud to
be selected by the BMW Group. This endorsement from the world-class
manufacturer speaks well of SingTel's capabilities across the Asia Pacific and
our ability to meet the stringent requirements of our corporate customers.
"Today, many European companies hope to tap the abundant opportunities in
Asia Pacific and are looking to work with a strong Asian telecommunications
partner to meet their connectivity needs from Europe into Asia. SingTel, with
its extensive and diversified network infrastructure in Asia Pacific, as well
as its in-depth knowledge of the regional markets, is well poised to meet their
demands."
To serve customers with core hub sites out of Europe, SingTel set up its
European headquarters in London in 1997. SingTel today has 32 offices in 16
countries to support its multinational customers worldwide.
