SAN FRANCISCO, Dec. 14 --PRNewswire--AsiaNet/InfoQuest
JARING Launches Wireless Broadband Service Powered by the SOMAport(TM) 300
SOMA Networks, Inc., a leading provider of last-mile broadband wireless
access technology delivering multi-megabit broadband access and superior voice
services, today announced commercial availability of the SOMAport(TM) 300
wireless broadband gateway device in the Asia Pacific region. Featuring fully
integrated voice, multi-megabit broadband access, and future WiFi capabilities,
the SOMAport 300 is the industry's first self-provisioning broadband wireless
access device that can deliver voice and advanced services over broadband
wireless technology in one compact and elegantly designed gateway product.
JARING, Malaysia's leading unified communications service provider, is using
the SOMAport 300 to power its new wireless broadband system. Malaysia is the
first Asian country to enjoy the benefits of the new SOMAport 300.
The SOMAport 300 has been successfully tested by several leading service
providers in North America, Asia, the Pacific, Europe, and the Caribbean which
have deployed SOMA Networks' solution using a variety of licensed frequency
bands including 1.9 GHz, 2.3 GHz, and 2.6 GHz. Carriers were most impressed
with the true non-line of sight (NLOS) and self-provisioning capabilities of
the wireless broadband gateway platform, particularly for voice services that
can be notoriously difficult to provision. The intelligent device enables
service providers to offer tiered broadband speeds and telephone service
options, without the need for technician visits, special wiring, or externally
mounted antenna.
"The SOMAport 300 represents a one-stop solution for our customers to
quickly connect to voice and broadband data services," said Dr. Mohamed Bin
Awang Lah, chief executive officer of JARING. "It will allow JARING to help
achieve Malaysia's objective of increasing voice and broadband data penetration
and become one of Asia's leading telecommunication markets."
"The SOMAport 300 was designed to allow communication providers to meet
numerous service requirements with one flexible, NLOS gateway device that can
outperform anything on the market today," said Greg Caltabiano, chief operating
officer of SOMA Networks. "By deploying the SOMAport 300 on their new
broadband wireless network, JARING now has the ability to offer advanced
services that will drive customer demand and retention, as well as create new
revenue streams. We are honored to be working with a market pioneer like JARING
to address the large broadband market opportunity in Malaysia."
The SOMAport 300 wireless broadband gateway is an easy-to-use device that
offers multiple services in one small product. The wireless broadband gateway
device can be installed and provisioned within minutes with simple online
activation. It provides connectivity to a wide range of communications and
computing devices via Ethernet and USB interfaces. In addition, built-in
WiFi/802.11 access points will be available in future releases of the SOMAport
product line. The SOMAport 300 is one component of the SoftAir(TM) system,
offering superior applications performance by leveraging 3G standards-based
technology. The NLOS, self-directing antenna enables the convenience of a
portable gateway. Subscribers are free to move the device between home and
office, or any other location within the carrier's coverage area, and receive
superior in-building coverage.
