NEW BRITAIN, Conn., April 27--PRNewswire-AsiaNet/InfoQuest The Stanley Works (NYSE: SWK) announced today that Jeff Chen, 46, has been named Vice President, Global Operations and has been elected a corporate executive officer effective immediately. Mr. Chen succeeds Paul M. Isabella who left the company two weeks ago. John F. Lundgren, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer commented: "Jeff Chen is a seasoned Stanley veteran who was identified for this promotion based upon his enormous contributions to Stanley operations on a global basis, including the strong Operations team he assembled in Asia. Under his leadership, four of five Asian manufacturing plants have risen to the upper tier (i.e. top third) in our Stanley Fulfillment System's Operations Scorecard that measures success factors such as quality, service fill rates and EH&S standard achievement. His successes at plant and distribution center management, as well as his demonstrated overall business acumen, will serve him well in his new assignment." Mr. Chen joined Stanley in 1983 and, over the next 22 years, gained considerable experience at company facilities in Taichung, Taiwan; Dallas, Texas; Richmond, Virginia and Bangkok, Thailand. In doing so, he progressed from entry level management though leadership of Asian operations. Mr. Chen's 22-year Stanley career was divided equally among U.S. and Asian assignments that included production supervision, inventory controllership, distribution center management, operations and overall country management, culminating in his most recent position -- President, Asia Operations -- which he held since 2003. In his new role, Mr. Chen will have direct responsibility for leading the corporate operations shared-services team, including the oversight of global procurement, the Stanley Fulfillment System, lean manufacturing, six-sigma, distribution and freight, while providing direction to the business operations teams in the execution of their plans, programs and staff development. Also, until a successor is chosen, he will continue to oversee Asia Operations. He will maintain offices in New Britain, CT and Bangkok, Thailand. The Stanley Works, an S&P 500 company, is a worldwide supplier of tools and security solutions for professional, industrial and consumer use. The company reported sales from continuing operations of $3.0 billion in 2004 and employs approximately 15,000 people.
