Minister/State Secretary Yusril Ihza Mahendra on Tuesday inducted Asro Kamal Rokan as the new managing director of ANTARA National News Agency Institute (LKBN ANTARA) replacing M Sobary.
Asro was appointed to the post by Presidential Decree No.113/M/2005 dated July 4.
Yusril said on the occasion ANTARA's tasks as Indonesia's national news
agency relating to internal as well as external issues were now heavier than in the past.
"I trust all these tasks will be carried out well by the new ANTARA
managing director," he added.
Asro was previously chief editor of Republika daily, while Sobary who has served as ANTARA managing director for more than five years was a senior
researcher at the Indonesian Institute of Sciences. (LIPI).
Yusril further expressed hope that ANTARA will be able to cooperate with
many foreign news agencies by building a broader, sharper and more effective network which later would function as an institution that was able to voice Indonesia's interests abroad.
He also thanked Sobary for his services.
Also attending the transfer of duties function were former state secretary Moerdiono, former minister of religious affairs Tarmizi Taher, a member of the House of Representatives (DPR) Alvin Lie, Prosperous Justice Party (PK)
President Tifatul Sembiring, associate chairman of the Democrat Party Anas
Urbaningrum, chairman of the Capital Inmvestment Coordination Board (BKPM) M Luthfi and senior lawyer Adnan Buyung Nasution.
