(Nasdaq: DGII) of Minneapolis, Minn., USA, the leading provider of server-based remote access communications solutions, and CPqD-Telebras, the R&D Center of Campinas, Brazil, have announced a joint development agreement to build a next-generation family of Internet Access Modules for the Tropico RA, a central office switch platform designed and developed by CPqD. This family of very dense, mixed-signal products is in response to the exploding demand in Brazil and worldwide for Internet access. There is also significant growth in regular digital and analog traffic through the central office. CPqD-Telebras says, "We are going through significant change in Telebras and we want to be responsive to the huge growth of Internet data. We selected Digi because we believe this partnership will produce high-quality next-generation technology for our growth plans." Digi will work with CPqD to customize its recently announced DataFire RAS-60 product to create access modules that are compatible with the huge installed base of Tropico switches, and that will also be deployed with future versions. Tropico switches are sold and maintained by global companies including the Brazilian Promon and Alcatel. Terms of the contract and product availability are not available, but the market opportunity for the jointly-developed products number millions of existing lines as well as millions more yet to be deployed.
