Mr. Prasarn Trairatvorakul, Governor of the Bank of Thailand, unveiled an 80-Baht commemorative banknote to celebrate the auspicious occasion of Her Majesty the Queen’s 80th birthday anniversary on 12 August 2012 and a 100-Baht commemorative banknote of His Royal Highness Crown Prince Maha Vajiralongkorn’s 5th Cycle Birthday Anniversary on 28 July 2012. The issuance of those commemorative banknotes is to pay tribute to HM the Queen and HRH the Crown Prince for their incomparable contributions to the country.
The 2,000,000 commemorative notes will be launched to mark the auspicious occasion of HM the Queen’s 80th birthday anniversary. The special features incorporated in the banknote are the 80-mm. width representing 80 years of age and the blue color to mark HM the Queen’s birthday on Friday. The front of the banknote depicts the portrait of HM the King and HM the Queen. The watermark features HM the Queen’s crowned monogram “ส.ก.”. With a special translucent effect, the electrotype letter “ก” is clearly visible from both sides when the banknote is held up to the light.
The windowed security thread is visible on the surface of the paper at regular intervals. Inside each window contains the number “80” and the “rose” image, which will be switched, when the banknote is tilted.
The commemorative banknote is encased with a hard-paper cover priced at 120 baht each, available from all branches of commercial banks, the Government Savings Bank, the Bank for Agriculture and Agricultural Cooperatives, the Government Housing Bank, and the Islamic Bank of Thailand from 9 August 2012 onwards. Part of the proceeds from the sale will be humbly presented to HM the Queen for royal charity purposes.
For the celebration of His Royal Highness Crown Prince Maha Vajiralongkorn’s 5th cycle birthday anniversary on 28 July 2012, the 10,000,000 commemorative banknotes will be issued into circulation on 27 July 2012.
The image at the front side is identical to the 15th series of 100-Baht banknote presently in circulation. The special design depicting the portrait of HRH Crown Prince Maha Vajiralongkorn and the scene of His Royal Highness being conferred the title of Crown Prince is illustrated on the back of the banknote.
