All Financial Institutions
No. BOT.PPD. (21) C.447/2553 Re: Permission for temporary voluntary suspension of services at some bank branches or certain services at the head office due to inconvenience caused by political gathering in some locations.
In view of the major political gathering in Bangkok during 12-23 March 2010, which may disrupt public transportation and business activity in Bangkok and other affected areas, the Bank of Thailand announces the followings:
1. Operation of financial institutions under Bank of Thailand’s supervision.
1.1. In the case where the Government announces the closure of government services in certain location for a certain period, financial institutions may consider temporary suspension of services at braches in those locations for such period. In case of the head office, financial institutions may also consider suspension of only those services with direct public contact, but financial institutions are to continue to operate financial market transactions and payments and settlement transactions.
1.2. Where necessary, financial institutions may also temporarily suspend the operation of branches in locations other than those mentioned in 1.1 above, with immediate notification to the Bank of Thailand in accordance with the current guideline.
2. Operation of the Bank of Thailand
In case an abnormal circumstance occurs, the Bank of Thailand will continue to operate the financial market transactions and the payment and settlement systems, which include the payment system, cheque clearing, and BAHTNET to serve the financial system.
