SSRU Branches Out From Traditional Classroom Instruction by Adding E-learning and Online Instruction and Education With Help From Foundry's Networking Solutions, Service and Support
Foundry Networks(r), Inc., a performance and total solutions leader for end-to-end switching and routing, today announced Suan Sunandha Rajabhat University (SSRU), a leading public university located in Bangkok, selected a Foundry end-to-end networking solution to upgrade its networking infrastructure to meet the demands of traditional classroom studies while branching into interactive, e-learning and online classes and instruction. In order to support the rigorous bandwidth demands of more than 15,000 full-time students, SSRU installed a variety of Foundry's FastIron(r) Family of Power over Ethernet (PoE) ready Layer 2/3 switches, ServerIron(r) family of application delivery and traffic management switches, and IronPoint(r) Mobility family of wireless products.
The university provides Internet, intranet, and wireless campus services throughout the campus. All processes regarding student admission, registration, delivery of student grades, announcement of study results, and payment are made through an online system that must be reliable and robust to allow multiple access, various modes of access, and access not limited to work hours. In addition, the school also maintains 14 database servers that are repositories for academic works and research and is available for searching, in English, throughout the network.
"Foundry offered us a complete edge-to-core networking solution that comprehensively met the needs of students, faculty and the administration while providing high performance, future scalability and compelling value compared to competitors," said Associate Professor Dr. Narong Ploydanai, vice president for Planning, Research and Development for Suan Sunandha Rajabhat University. "In addition to its broad product line, a crucial component of our decision to go with Foundry involved its industry leading sales, service and support, which has been exemplary and proactive from the planning stages to post-implementation."
Dr. Ploydanai continued, "With thousands of students, faculty and administration accessing and using the network, both internally and remotely, it is crucial that our network not experience unexpected downtime or performance problems. Foundry and partner, Sun Datacom, designed and installed a network where instead of fixing network problems, we can focus on the most important tasks on hand: providing the best education and educational environment for our students and faculty."
Founded in 1937, SSRU offers Bachelor's, Master's and Doctorate programs and degrees in more than 50 disciplines to their part- and full-time students. A public institution, SSRU belongs to the Rajabhat Universities, a system of over 37 public universities throughout Thailand. SSRU partners with many international institutions across the globe including California State University, Fullerton, Indiana State University, and Rutgers University in the United States.
"We are pleased that Suan Sunandha Rajabhat University selected Foundry's high-performance switching, wireless and application-delivery products and solutions," said Bob Schiff, vice president and general manager of the Enterprise Business Unit for Foundry Networks. "As a leader in higher education in Thailand, SSRU provides an important service to its students. Likewise, Foundry strives to be a leader not only in products, but service and support as well. We are glad to see that our industry-leading service and support was such a crucial factor in the university's decision to go with a Foundry solution."
