3. Information from meeting

Background information

In December 2010, TTC Osaka was contacted by Nishikawa Living through their agent, Argo International about Eri Silk in Thailand since Nishikawa wanted to develop a new product, silk duvet using Eri Silk. TTC introduced Sharon Thai Silk, President of Thai Silk Association and manufacture and active exporter of silk duvet cover. In March 2011, they contacted TTC again to ask silk noil (short fiber silk for silk cotton) supplier, and TTC introduced Spun Silk World. Since then Nishikawa has worked with Spun Silk World for silk cotton and Sharon Thai Silk for duvet cover. Imported Eri Silk cotton has to go through another process to make the cotton soft and fluffy.

In early October 2011, Mr. Yajima visited Queen Sirikit Sericulture Center in Udon Thani. He met Mr. Pairoj Limchamroon, Director General, The Queen Sirikit Department of Sericulture and Mr. Saridiporn Chuprayoon, Director, Office of Sericulture Conservation and Standard conformity Assessment, and also representatives from Spun Silk World and Sharon Thai Silk, etc. Mr. Pairoj made speech and he expressed government endorsement to the production of Eri Silk in that area.

Introduction of new product

In November 2011, Nishikawa Living introduced silk duvet made of silk cotton and silk duvet cover from Thailand. Imported silk cotton has to go through another process to make the cotton soft and fluffy to make filling for duvet. Nishikawa introduced the duvet in the occasion of in-house new products exhibition for their business clients. They introduced the new product as 'Hohoemi-no Kinu (Smile silk) from Thailand'. In their display they introduced their new product as an outcome of joint development with Thai government, Department of Sericulture, Agriculture Ministry. They displayed endorsement letter from Director General of the department. Nishikawa thanked both Sharon Thai Silk and Spun Thai Silk for their quick respond for product development also good coordination with government and other organizations. They are going to sell their products from end of Feb. 2012 at retail shop. Retail price for Single size is about 100,000yen.

4. Result of meeting:

Nishikawa asked market size of Thai silk industry. They also asked advice on decoration to make their display Thai style. Nishikawa requested to TTC to introduce Thai Ambassador.

Then TTC provided industry information together with Thai Peacock Standard information. TTC is going to invite Nishikawa Living for National Day party on Dec. 5 to introduce Consul General to Nishikawa. TTC will introduce TTC Tokyo as well. TTC also told Nishikawa that TTC will invite them for any Thai products promotion event in the future.
