At SUBCON Thailand 2025, ASEAN's leading industrial part sourcing and business matching event, MAHLE will showcase its latest future-ready advancements in thermal management and electrification. From May 14 to 17, 2025, visitors are invited to discover MAHLE's bionic battery cooling plate, which enhances battery performance and sustainability, and its liquid management modules boosting thermal efficiency for traction drives and e-motors at BITEC Exhibition Center, Hall 104, Booth D52.
"By being able to understand thermal systems in vehicles as a whole and developing holistic innovative, tailor-made concepts for our customers, we successfully set ourselves apart from the competition," said Jumana Al-Sibai, Member of the Management Board and in charge of the Thermal Management and Fluid Systems Business Unit.
Bionic battery cooling plate: A leap forward inspired by nature
Drawing inspiration from nature's highly efficient structures, MAHLE engineers have developed a bionic structure for the cooling channels of their battery cooling plate. This innovation leads to a 10 percent increase in cooling capacity, a 20 percent reduction in pressure loss, and a more homogeneous temperature distribution across the battery cells.
With these improvements, the battery can operate more efficiently, charge faster, and maintain higher durability. Uniform thermal control prevents overheating, improving battery performance under demanding conditions. Additionally, optimized material usage has reduced production materials by up to 15 percent, resulting in a 15 percent reduction in CO? emissions.
"Our bionic cooling plate shows how nature can inspire breakthrough solutions for modern mobility challenges," said Jakob Ruemmler, Managing Director of MAHLE Services Thailand. "We're excited to present this innovation for the first time in the ASEAN market at SUBCON Thailand 2025."
Liquid management modules: Integrated thermal solutions for e-motors
MAHLE will also debut its Liquid Management Modules for transmission and motor cooling for fuel cell electric vehicles (FCEV), battery electric vehicles (BEV), and hybrid vehicles.
These modules combine critical functions such as cooling, filtration, and fluid supply into one compact system. Main module components include an electrically driven oil pump, heat exchanger, and filter, while optional features such as an integrated oil reservoir, thermostat, de-foaming unit, drying unit, and temperature and pressure sensors can be incorporated depending on customer requirements. Housings are available in plastic, aluminum diecast, or hybrid materials, providing flexibility to meet different application needs.
The integrated design enables oil cooling for compact motor configurations, helping motors achieve continuous peak performance exceeding 70 percent, compared to approximately 50 percent possible with conventional water jacket cooling. Thermal management and pressure losses are optimized, reducing strain on the system and enhancing energy efficiency. With pressure-side filtration, the modules also offer improved noise, vibration, and harshness (NVH) performance, higher flow rates, and minimized risks of cavitation and foaming. Overall, the module design supports significant space and weight reductions of up to 20 percent, allowing for more efficient vehicle packaging and lower production costs.
By combining several critical thermal management functions into a single compact unit, MAHLE helps automotive manufacturers improve system efficiency, reduce component complexity, and enhance overall vehicle performance.
Supporting the MAHLE 2030+ Strategy
These new developments are a direct result of the company's strategy MAHLE 2030+, which focuses on three pillars: electrification, thermal management, and highly efficient and sustainable internal combustion engines (ICEs). Through continued innovation and strategic investments, MAHLE is committed to supporting the future of sustainable mobility, not only through advancements in electric powertrains but also by further improving traditional drivetrain technologies.
