On 26 February 2009 at 10.00-12.00 hrs. at Dusit Thani Hua Hin Hotel, Cha-am, Phetchaburi, the Meeting of the ASEAN Directors-General Preparatory Meeting was convened and chaired by Mr. Vitavas Srivihok Director-General of ASEAN-Thailand. The Meeting aimed at discussing issues related to the preparation for the 14th ASEAN Summit, the informal ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting, the ASEAN Coordinating Council (ACC), and related meetings.
The Meeting considered the arrangements and proceedings for the 14th ASEAN Summits namely, the Official Programme, Indicative List of Topics of Discussion and the Outcome Documents for the 14th ASEAN Summit. The Cha-am Hua Hin Declaration on the Roadmap for an ASEAN Community (2009-2015) will be the main Outcome Document signed by the ASEAN Heads of State and Government at this Summit.
he topics to be discussed at the 14th Summit include the Implementation of the ASEAN Charter, Regional and International Issues as well as pressing issues that affect the well-being of ASEAN peoples, namely the Global Financial Crisis, Food and Energy Security, and Disaster Management.
On this same day, the Permanent Secretary of Foreign Affairs of Thailand also chaired the informal ASEAN Senior Officials’ Meeting to discuss various substantive issues for the 14th ASEAN Summit and the informal ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting. The issues include ASEAN’s external relations, ASEAN centrality in the evolving regional architecture, and ASEAN Notional Calendar under the Thai Chairmanship.
