Advanced Diagnostic Imaging and Image-Guided Minimal Invasive Therapy Center (AIMC), Ramathibodi Hospital, Mahidol University joins force with Philips Electronics (Thailand) Ltd., to organize “The 3rd Annual International MR Spectroscopy Lecture and Workshop 2010 from Principle to Practices” to provide physicians and doctors to better understand the theories of MR Spectroscopy (MRS) and be able to apply it to a clinical environment.
The 3rd Annual International MR Spectroscopy Lecture and Workshop 2010 consisted of lectures in basic and intermediate levels of MRS knowledge and hand-on group workshops on simulated computer-based scanning and post-processing on workstation. The seminar brought in leading MRS experts including, Dr. Peter Barker from Johns Hopkins University, Dr. Marc Van Cauteren, MR Clinical Science Director of Philips Healthcare Asia Pacific, Dr.Marinus Kruiskamp, Clinical Scientist of Philips Healthcare Netherlands and Assoc Prof. Jiraporn Laothamatas, M.D, Executive Director of AIMC to share their knowledge and clinical experience through such techniques as interactive case practice and optional post processing. There were 120 physician and doctors from leading hospitals in Thailand attending the seminar, held at Sofitel Phokeethra Golf and Spa Resort, Krabi.
Currently, there is a growing trend in utilizing MRS in the Oncology field, so that the ability to use MRS to diagnose certain pathologies and conditions has become increasingly important among physician and doctors. MRS is an application of Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) that provides chemical information about tissue metabolites with body imaging. This would help physician to diagnose certain pathologies and conditions, leading them to provide the appropriate treatment to their patients.
