JETRO Bangkok President Munenori Yamada said “Many Thai SMEs are yet to learn about complete benefits of EPAs. Some find it difficult to access detailed information or apply for the privileges. Therefore, the Ministry of Commerce, with support from JETRO Bangkok, aims to provide practical information on how to utilize EPAs by hosting a symposium entitled ‘Symposium for Thai SMEs for their business expansion to the new markets’ during the upcoming BIG+BIH 2010 event. This will be a fundamental for the completion of ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) where tariff reduction or exemption is fully reached as well as for the integration of ASEAN as one whole market where Japanese enterprises seek to expand their business network. “Moreover, the Ministry of Commerce and JETRO Bangkok are going to introduce examples of ‘Thai-Japan Business Partnership’ or ‘T-J PS’, a key success factor for SMEs in numerous fields, at the symposium in order to penetrate or expand businesses together to the 3rd market, especially other AEC countries and countries with rapid growth such as India. By the recent survey by JETRO, Thailand is ranked the 2nd most attractive investment destination (after China) for Japanese investors, this shows that a large number of Japanese investors recognize Thais as one of the most important partners for their business expansion,” Mr. Yamada said. The symposium will be held on Thursday October 21, 2010, 08:00-12:00 hrs (followed by lunch), at Grand Hall on the 2nd floor of BITEC during the BIG+BIH 2010 event. The admission is free.
