Urban Field
A significant figure in the Thai contemporary art scene, 45-year-old Thai artist, Gumsak Atipiboonsin, a graduate of Silapakorn University, has consistently demonstrated a rare understanding of nonrepresentational forms, and colour relationships while continuously showing superior skill in his medium of oils.
For "Urban Field" - the artist's 7th Bangkok solo exhibition - Gumsak offers 14 paintings of vivid colour-fields, and of intense geometric patterns inspired by man's inherent connection to the natural world while living in an urban setting.
These complex configurations negotiate their way around Gumsak's surfaces with varying degrees of ease and difficulty. They exemplify the artist's gift for handling complementary colours and contrasting tones "Urban Field" to Gumsak is not just about competition and survival, but about reflections and memories of landscapes and cityscapes teaming with life around us.
