Bangkok--7 Oct--Total Quality PR
Thailand is one of the world's leading exporters of agricultural products, with a well developed processed food sector. Its exports of food and food products to the European Union (EU) in 2009 totalled at over 90 billion baht (over 2.2 billion euros) which represented 15% of all Thai exports to the EU.
The EU has put in place regulations in order to ensure that food and food products sold in the EU meet the same health and safety standards regardless of where they have been produced as European consumers have become increasingly aware of the quality of food they consume and demand high standards.
To explain to Thai businesses and policy-makers EU food safety regulations the Delegation of the European Union to Thailand and National Bureau of Agricultural Commodity and Food Standards, Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives jointly organise a public seminar on “Doing Business with the EU: Regulations on Food Additives and Novel Foods” on 14 October 2010 at the Landmark Bangkok Hotel (Landmark Ballroom), Bangkok at 09.00-16.30 hrs.
The seminar will focus on two key policies: Food Improvement Agents Package (FIAP) and the regulation on Novel Foods. FIAP covers new Regulations on food additives, flavourings and food ingredients with flavouring properties and, for the first time, harmonised rules on food enzymes. Regulation on Novel Foods lays down rules for obtaining authorisation for foods and food ingredients that have not been consumed in the EU market to a significant degree prior to 15 May 1997 before they can be sold on the EU market.
Leading EU experts Prof Dr. Kimmo Peltonen of Finnish Food Safety Authority and Mr. Hermann Brei of Federal Ministry for Food, Agriculture and Consumer Protection of Germany will speak at the seminar.
A Press conference will be organised after the opening session and conducted in both English and Thai with a simultaneous interpretation service.
