Australian Ambassador to Thailand, James Wise, recently welcomed Bangkok Governor MR
Sukhumband Paribatra to the Australian Embassy booth at the International Food Fair as part of Bangkok Sister Cities Week, 2010. The Australian Embassy booth showcased Australian premium products, Vittoria coffee and Penfolds wine.
Thai consumers now enjoy a wider variety of high quality Australian wines thanks to tariff concessions provided under the Thailand-Australia Free Trade Agreement (TAFTA) which came into force in January 2005. Bilateral trade between Thailand and Australia has grown rapidly since then and Thailand is now Australia’s ninth largest trading partner and second largest in ASEAN. Two way merchandise trade reached AUD19 billion (approximately THB55.1 billion) in 2009.
