Bangkok--8 Oct--MOF
Director-General of the State Enterprise Policy Office (SEPO), Dr Somchai Sujjapongse, recently confirmed that revenue earned in fiscal year 2010 by state enterprises and other corporations with a less than 50 per cent share held by the Finance Ministry amounted to 91,553 million baht. This was 8,253.22 million baht more than the forecast of 83,300 million baht, which, he said, represented a remarkable performance by state enterprises in the face of economic pressure both global and domestic.
Revenue earned in September alone amounted to 9,344.61 million baht, exceeding its target by 1,324.67 million baht.
The four enterprises submitting the most revenue to the treasury in September were PTT PCL, with 6,934.46 million baht derived from half-year dividends; the Government Lottery Office with 1,520.15 million baht from the sale of lottery tickets; the Provincial Electricity Authority with 496.23 million baht, and Thailand Post with 225.80 million baht from its 2009 annual dividends.
“This was only part of the state enterprises contribution to the country’s economic advance,” said Dr Somchai.
“Our hope now is that the SEPO will increase their competitiveness in social as well as economic terms, in order to add strength and sustainability to Thailand’s progress.”
