UN SECRETARY-GENERAL VISITS THAILAND AT START OF FOUR-NATION ASIA TOUR

Bangkok--22 Oct--UNISBKK As the start of a four nation visit to Asia, United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon will arrive in Thailand on Tuesday 26 October, making visits to Government House and to the United Nations Conference Centre in Bangkok. The Secretary-General will be received by the Prime Minister of Thailand at Government House where they will make a joint statement and take questions at 14:15 in the Outer Santri Maitri Building. The Secretary-General will then proceed to the United Nations Conference Centre accompanied by Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations and Executive Secretary of the UN Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) Noeleen Heyzer. The Secretary-General will commemorate United Nations Day with the assembled staff of ESCAP and UN Agencies. Photographers and journalists are invited to attend the UN Daycommemoration, to be held at 14:35 on Tuesday 26 October in the Lobby of the UN Conference Centre, Rajdamnern Nok Avenue, Bangkok, including a photo opportunity of the ceremony and the Secretary-General’s UN Day remarks. The Secretary-General will then chair a closed meeting of the UN's Asia-Pacific Regional Coordination Mechanism which includes the heads of UN Agencies for the Asian Region and the South East Asia Sub-region. Due to a tight schedule, there will be no opportunities for questions or interviews with the Secretary-General at the UN Conference Center.
