WWF Thailand and US with collaboration from MSC and Thai Fisheries Stakeholders set up the workshop to find the way of sustainable fishery and ecosystem friendly fishery business for sustainable competition in markets.
Ms. Saisunee Chaksuin Training Project Manager for Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) and Fishery Improvement Project (FIP) WWF US said that WWF Thailand and US realize about the important to building understanding among all key stakeholders in Thailand as one of the big fishery products exporter country to understand the MSC standard. The implementation capacity and development platform under MSC standard is important to support the sustainable fishery that fits to the Fishery Improvement Project that initiate by WWF US. The workshop is held on 26-27 October 2010 at Central Place, Samut Songkhram province that has around 30 key stakeholders in Thailand attend this workshop.
This workshop is also arranged for brain storming the idea for fishery development from key stakeholders that have direct practical in fishery development standard. All idea from the workshop will be brought to evaluate Thailand fishery business potential before studying the readiness of fishery business in South East Asia area for implementing the MSC standardization. The organizer of this workshop training mentioned that the knowledge in MSC international standard measurement to certify the fishery in Blue Swimming Crap, Grouper /Snapper and squid will raise awareness among business sector and key stakeholder in fishery business to realize about the important issue of fishery standard development. The development of standard measurement to certify the eco friendly fishery in Thailand will help business sector in term of advance competitiveness in long term together with the sustainable seafood development.
