Honda achieves strong export performance with 45% growth in first 9 months of 2010

Bangkok--28 Oct--Aziam Burson-Marsteller Asian Honda Motor Co., Ltd., Honda’s Bangkok-based Asia & Oceania Regional Headquarters, reported that total exports of Honda products in the first 9 months of 2010 grew by 45% to a total value of 74,539 million Baht with Q3 contributing 24,419 million baht, up 21% from the same period last year. Honda estimates that exports in Q4 will continue to improve and total exports at the end of 2010 are anticipated to exceed 98 billion Baht, a 38% increase from last year. Mr. Fumihiko Ike, President & CEO, Asian Honda Motor Co., Ltd., said, “For the first 9 months of 2010, the export performance from Thailand has achieved significant growth due in large part to the global economic recovery, especially in Asia and Oceania. Among all our export products, motorcycle CBUs gained the highest growth, thanks to the PCX model. To further emphasize the importance of the Thai production base, yesterday we launched the CBR250R, the global sport motorcycle produced in Thailand, and plan to export it to over 20 countries. We are confident that this model will also receive good acceptance from customersworldwide.” Automobile: In the first 9 months, the total value of Honda’s automobile CBU and CKD exports increased 47% to 46,579 million Baht. There was particularly strong performance in automobile CBU exports which grew 55% by value to 25,285 million Baht. Honda exported a total of 47,161 units in the first 9 months, a 57% increase from the same previous last year. Civic represented the highest number of exports with 10,475 units, followed by 10,426 units for City and 9,884 units for Jazz. While automobile CKD components in the first 9 months reached 21,294 million Baht, 38% up from the same period last year. Currently, Honda exports automobile CBU from Thailand to over 40 countries worldwide. Motorcycle: The total value of motorcycle CBU and CKD exports in the first 9 months grew 46% from the same period last year to 16,362 million Baht. Motorcycle CBU exports saw very strong growth of 369% by volume to 38,358 units and 431% by value to 2,342 million Baht in the first 9 months. A key success factor was the PCX model as Thailand is its global manufacturing base and exports the PCX to many countries worldwide such as Europe, Japan, Korea, Indonesia and the U.S. Motorcycle CKD components also recorded significant growth of 30% by value, or 14,020 million Baht. Power Products: Thailand serves as Honda’s largest export manufacturing base for power products. Currently, Honda exports power products from Thailand to over 80 countries worldwide with the key markets being Asia and Oceania, the U.S. and Europe. Exports in Q3 rose 60% from the same period last year to 515,627 units or a value of 3,096 million Baht. Cumulative Honda power products exports in the first 9 months were 1,489,731 units with a total value of 8,828 million Baht, representing a 60% increase in volume and 55% increase in value from the same period last year. Others: In addition to its three primary export product lines, Honda also exports spare parts, accessories, jigs and molds from Thailand to many global markets. The export value of all of these products in the first 9 months was unchanged from the same period last year with a total value of 2,770 million Baht.
