Somkid Sumethowejchakul of Thailand has become the world’s 2nd bodybuilding champion during the World Bodybuilding Championship in India. Somkid is the gold medalist on male bodybuilding’s 65 kgs category. Jeerapan Pongkham is also the silver medalist on 60 kgs bodybuilding category.
According to Mr Pakpong Kriangsak, President of Thailand Bodybuilding and Physique Sports Association, “This is another golden year for Thailand Bodybuilding and Physique Sports Association. Our bodybuilding and fitness athletes are always the champions during international championships. We just returned from the World Bodybuilding Championship in India where our 5 male bodybuilding athletes joined the competition with athletes from all over the world. Somkid Sumethowejchakul won the gold medal. He is now the world’s 2nd champion following Sitthi Charoenrit, who held the world championship on bodybuilding’s 80 kgs category for three times before his retirement.
“Our bodybuilding athletes are very good. The other 4 athletes were also listed on the top 5, including Jeerapan Pongkham; silver medalist on 60 kgs bodybuilding category, Khuntarn Puangpetch (4th on 70 kgs category), Suwit Kejwongsa (4th on 75 kgs category) and Sawaeng Panapoey (5th on 80 kgs category). The success of our bodybuilding athletes will help all of us push forward to bring more success to Thailand Bodybuilding and Physique Sports Association and Thailand at large. Before the end of 2010 our male bodybuilding athletes will compete at the 2nd Asian Beach Games in Oman and we wish to have another great success once again,” Mr Pakpong said.
Prior to competing at the World Bodybuilding Championship in India, Somkid was this year’s gold medalist at the 44th Asia and Bodybuilding Classic Championship in Iran.
Somkid is married. He is now 44 years old and has 3 children.
