ข่าวทั่วไป Wednesday November 3, 2010 17:13 —PRESS RELEASE LOCAL

Bangkok--3 Nov--iHR Asia Rayong is the centre of industry expansion in Thailand. Ford auto alliance and Mitsubishi are currently undertaking major expansion projects which means the total number of cars produced could exceed two million within 2 years. This year alone domestic auto sales in Thailand rose over 52% in the first nine months compared to 2009. Export sales rose in the same period by over 82%. In addition, many projects are being substantially increased across a range of industries including oil and gas and Technology. This means the area faces a potential talent crisis in management and technical staff. On Monday November 1 iHR Asia took the lead by conducting a one day forum/training session for 30 HR professionals from the area. The program focused on attraction and retention strategies allowing participants to share ideas about tactics to approach what is now one of Thailand’s most challenging issues-finding and keeping good people. Chaired by iHR Asia Regional Director-South East Asia, Michael Usher, the forums panel (made up of Dr. Pugdee Manaves: Deputy Managing Director of Bangkok Aviation Fuel Services (BAFS), Khun Wallapa Tangsopa: Human Resources Manager of BMW manufacturing (Thailand) and participants passionately reflected upon their current challenges and identified some important strategies for going forward. Interestingly it was agreed that the development of leaders was an essential ingredient to resolving retention issues in that it was ultimately managers that developed workplace cultures which were attractive for skilled and professional labour. Participants from organisations including Bosch Automotive, Cardinal Health 222, Bridgestone Carbon Black and etc. were also treated to an exhibition of iHR Asia’s leading edge Leadership and Culture training. iHR Australia managing director Stephen Bell facilitated a three hour experiential learning session featuring iHR Asia actors. The group responded magnificently getting involved in the interactive role plays and simulations. Katoen Natie Managing Director Mr Alain Deurwaerder, also addressed the group giving a very succinct account of the potential impacts on labour resulting from the areas growth. He also emphasised the importance of leadership as a major component of attracting and retaining good people.
