Bangkok--17 Nov--Thai Airways
Thai Airways International Public Company Limited (THAI) affirms the airline’s top priority is safety and that it is in full compliance with the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) safety standard.
Mr. Piyasvasti Amranand, THAI President, said that throughout the 50 years Thai Airways International has been flying, the airline has always operated according to international standards and has been well-recognized by its customers and the traveling public for its excellent service and safety. THAI’s aviation safety practices and program fall under the air transport regulatory authority, in accordance with international policies such as that of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) as well as the policies of those regulatory authorities of the different countries to which THAI flies.
The Director General of the Association of Asia Pacific Airlines recently reported, “Air Travel is recognized as the safest form of travel, with major airlines achieving safety levels of one major accident for every two million flights.” In spite of this, the ICAO’s top priority in aviation safety is the Safety Management System (SMS), a tool for controlling and monitoring various risk factors in which all airlines must have. THAI was one of the first airlines to implement and use this system, which renders THAI’s safety management as effective. THAI has defined its goal for safety as “Zero Accidents.”
However, a recent posting on the web placing THAI ninth out of 10 “most dangerous” airlines is an inaccurate report, as the figures were based on 1980 — 1990 statistics, and not on THAI’s current safety practices of the present day. As such, posting of outdated news with sensational headlines is most inappropriate, unprofessional, and should not be worthy of referencing as information source.
THAI has in the past and in the present day continues to abide by the safety regulations of safety regulatory authorities from Thailand and from abroad, whom all have certified THAI as a safe airline.
