HSBC has appointed Matthew Lobner as Chief Executive Officer of HSBC in Thailand, effective January 2011 and subject to regulatory approval.
Mr Lobner joins HSBC Thailand from Hong Kong, where he is currently Global Head of Corporate/International Business, Commercial Banking. He joined HSBC in 2005 after a period as Associate Principal at McKinsey & Company. Before joining the private sector, he served as an officer in the United States Navy. Mr Lobner takes over his new role from Willie Tham, who will join HSBC in Singapore as Head of Commercial Banking.

Matt’s experience in strengthening the Group’s leading international capabilities for clients within the Commercial Banking division will be invaluable as we take our operations in Thailand to the next level. I would like to thank Willie for his contribution to HSBC Thailand. I wish them both good luck in their new roles.”
At HSBC, Mr Lobner has worked in Chicago in consumer lending and in London in an international division covering Europe and the Middle East. At McKinsey, he was based in Chicago for four years.
