Huawei, a leader in providing next-generation telecommunications network solutions for operators around the world, today announced that more than one billion people — approximately one quarter of worldwide GSM users — now use Huawei’s GSM radio access networks for their mobile communication needs. This key milestone was reached through the GSM network that Huawei successfully constructed for MTN Nigeria.
GSM is the most widely-deployed mobile telephony standard in the world. Huawei has invested substantially in its GSM solutions. As a result, Huawei’s GSM solution has been adopted by nearly every mainstream GSM operator around the world. Since the second quarter of 2009, the shipment of Huawei’s GSM products has been ranked number one in the world, according to research firm Dell’Oro.
Additionally, Huawei currently holds the 2G network data rate record of 564Kb/s with its industry-leading EDGE+ technology, which brings high-bandwidth 3G experiences to 2G users over GSM networks.
