LG ANNOUNCES FASTEST TEXTERS IN THAILANDMahidol Students Take Crown and Chance to Compete for USD 100,000 in New York
LG Electronics (LG) today announced Warut Aphimanjindakul, 21, and Paphaporn Asawasirilert, 20, two students from the faculty of Information Systems, Mahidol University, as Thailand’s texting champions at the LG Mobile Worldcup QWERTY King 2010. The two winners will be awarded a trip to New York City and will compete against the best texters from all over the world.
Launched to celebrate mobile culture and advances in mobile technology, the LG Mobile Worldcup has become the world’s premier mobile festival. This year is the first time that the competition has come to Thailand, and is celebrated as the ‘LG Mobile Worldcup QWERTY King 2010’. In the final round of this competition, Warut Aphimanjindakul and Paphaporn Asawasirilert defeated 120 finalists to become the winners, achieving 145.97 and 132.58 characters per minute respectively. They will be awarded a trip to New York City and will compete against the best texters from 16 countries in the January 2011 World Championship for the ultimate prize of USD 100,000. Additionally, the fastest texter will have the chance to challenge for the Guinness World Record? established last year by Pedro Matias of Portugal, who set a new world record by accurately texting 264 English characters in 1 minute 59 seconds.
