HSBC has received regulatory approval to establish a new branch in Thailand, under the Government’s new Financial Sector Master Plan Phase II ruling that allows foreign banks to open additional outlets. HSBC plans to open a new HSBC Premier branch early next year to serve the expanding mass affluent retail banking segment in Thailand’s capital city.

The new branch will be located at Vasu The Residence on Soi Sukhumvit 55 (Thong Lor), Bangkok. Expected to open in the first quarter of 2011, it will provide personalised financial planning services by dedicated HSBC Premier Relationship Managers. Thailand’s recently issued Financial Sector Master Plan Phase II allows foreign banks operating in the country to open two additional branches — a move aimed at improving the competitiveness of the Thai financial system and fostering faster market liberalisation to support local economic development.
