Fast and Furious Formula Drift Action at Dataran MerdekaMalaysian Tengku Djan Ley poised for podium result after strong qualifying session
The Goodyear Formula DRIFT Malaysia 2010 got off to a rousing start with New Zealander, Daynom Templeman of Team Goodyear Racing setting the pace in his Mazda RX7 for a thrilling showdown with teammate, Thai hotshot Kokae in his Nissan Cerfiro A31, in finale at the Dataran Merdeka.
Malaysia’s Tengku Djan Ley of team FX Federation D in his Nissan 180SX earned the loudest cheers in front of the partisan crowd by finishing 3rd, putting himself in a strong position to stay in contention for a podium finish. He also leads the Malaysian charge ahead of Mervyn Mohamed Abdullah of Team Federation D, who finished in 6th place.
In addition to the Goodyear Formula DRIFT Malaysia 2010 title, over 50 world-class drivers from 10 countries will fight for the Asian Championship crown as competition moves up to its highest gear in the championship run. Main Competition kicks off with the first elimination round of 32, followed by the round of 16 to determine the champion.
Daynom Templeman from Goodyear Racing said, “I am really happy for my team who have all worked so hard to get us to compete in such a prestigious event. Top Malaysian qualifier and winner of last year’s edition, Tengku Djan Ley from FX Federation Drift said, “I was just focused on keeping it all in one piece. I am very happy to qualify in third place, definitely putting me in a good position to challenge strongly for the title.”
Enthusiastic motorsport fans thronged the grandstands for the thrilling drift action and the Sponsors Village for interactive games and activities. Formula DRIFT Malaysia 2010 will be the climax of the three-part Formula DRIFT Series, which blasted off with the Formula DRIFT Singapore ProAm Series and Formula DRIFT Thailand which was held in November.
