Bangkok--24 Dec--DTAC
Total Access Communication Plc (dtac) was granted an approval from the Board of Directors of CAT Telecom Plc yesterday to upgrade its network to High Speed Data Packet Access (HSPA) on 850 MHz. Band on a non-commercial service up to 1,220 base stations from currently 36.
Mr. Tore Johnsen, Chief Executive Officer, said dtac is happy to have received the approval which has been long awaited from the Board of CAT Telecom Plc The approval will give dtac the opportunity to finally offer our customers the experience of 3G.
DTAC sees the approval as a sign that the Government wants 3G to happen in Thailand and while waiting for NBTC to be established and run the 3G 2.1GHz auction, utilization of existing frequencies will be given priority. dtac’s goal is obviously to be allowed to offer the 3G services on a commercial basis and we therefore hope that the decision on this will soon be taken. We also sincerely hope that necessary regulatory approvals from NBTC will follow.
