SSI Makes New Record on Highest HRC Shipment at 2.24 million tons in 2010 among Thai Steel Companies SSI has exceeded the shipment at 2.24 million tons in 2010, the highest among Thai steel companies, due to the strong domestic demand- obtaining 22 new customers and focusing on sales of Premium Value Products The Company’s accumulated shipment of HRC exceed 23.53 million tons.
Mr. Win Viriyaprapaikit, President of Sahaviriya Steel Industries PLC (“SSI”) revealed that in 2010, SSI has constantly been strengthening its position as the market leader of high-grade steel sheet in Thailand. The company hit a new record of annual shipment at 2.24 million tons, which is close to 2010 sales volume target 2.30 million tons, the highest record year in terms of sales volume beating its previous record of 1.95 million tons in 2003. This sales volume is also the highest among Thai steel companies. Since starting operation in 1994, SSI hot rolled coil’s accumulated shipment as of 31 December 2010 was about 23.53 million tons.
SSI’S President said that despite weakness in the global steel market in 2010, SSI achieved the highest record of shipment due to the strong domestic demand and the company’s relentless focus on innovating value for its customer. It has obtained 8 new customers while expanding sales of Premium Value Products which accounted for 40% of total sales volume. SSI successfully delivered 14 new products into the market. In addition, the purchase of the Teesside Cast Products transaction with Corus (the agreed purchase price is USD 500 million) will benefit to stability in securing raw materials to SSI resulting in an increase of production volume up to 3 million tons in 2012.
