Thailand’s Ministry of Commerce (MOC) is organizing the “The Fourth Thailand Organic and Natural Trade Show” to further promote organic products from Thailand. The event is held under the theme of ‘Organic Island’, and emphasizes the outstanding capabilities of Thai entrepreneurs in the organics-related service industry, including hotels, spa centers and restaurants. The event features over 180 booths; presents seminars on various interesting topics; and, provides an all-inclusive consultation service on all one needs to know about Thai organic products.
Mrs.Porntiva Nakasai, Minister of Commerce, stated on the event’s opening day that, “The Ministry of Commerce has consistently encouraged constructive and continuous developments in the Thai organic products industry with a strong focus on the skill enhancement of Thai entrepreneurs. Our efforts have also included expansion of domestic and overseas markets, as well as, diversification of Thai organic products to achieve even higher satisfaction of customers within the country and beyond.”
“Consumers both in Thailand and overseas are placing greater importance on healthy and eco-friendly products, and therefore, high-quality organic products from Thailand enjoy a strong growth potential every year. Well aware of this opportunity, the Ministry of Commerce has always placed a strong emphasis on strengthening product development and image-building efforts for Thai organic products, which have resulted in even more robust business growth for both Thai farmers and entrepreneurs. The export of Thai organic products is anticipated to rise by 10% this year, while domestic consumption is predicted to increase by 15%.”, added Mrs. Porntiva.
The “The Fourth Thailand Organic and Natural Trade Show” event under the theme of ‘Organic Island’ is part of the promotional strategy for Thai organic products this year. It features an exhibition on Thailand’s first organic island project at Koh Pa-Ngan in Surat Thani. The project encourages hotels, spa centers and restaurants in Koh Pa-Ngan to go green and become more environmentally friendly through its selection of food materials and other products, as well as, the promotion of eco-conscious excursions. The Ministry of Commerce chose Koh Pa-Ngan as the pioneering site of this project because it demonstrates a strong organic potential both in terms of organic agriculture and service excellence.
In addition, people today truly understand that “you are what you eat”, and therefore, if we consume potentially contaminated food, chances are that we are facing many possible health risks which could result in serious economic and social losses. Determined to demonstrate a model for sustainable organic living which could effectively promote a healthier, happier lifestyle through the principles of Sufficiency Economy, the Ministry of Commerce and all parties concerned joined forces to turning Koh Pa-Ngan into the country’s first organic island and officially announced their collaboration on August 16th, 2010.
Mrs.Pimpapaan Chansilpa, Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Commerce, further disclosed that, “The “The Fourth Thailand Organic and Natural Trade Show” event aims to educate the general public on the advantages of organic products, as well as, to stimulate domestic consumption. With over 180 exhibition booths, visitors and entrepreneurs will benefit from a comprehensive consultation service on all you need to know about starting an organic business in Thailand — ranging from production to marketing to standard certifications. There is also a range of seminars and workshops covering interesting topics such as ‘Developing Trends of Thai Organic Products to the World’. Participants will have the opportunity to learn about successful production systems, international standard accreditations, innovation and added value for organic products, as well as, techniques in creating organic products to best satisfy different customers.”
