Uncontaminated Breath” ProjectAnnounced Results of Top Youths in HonestyAwarding Education Funds and Shields of HonourWorth over 300,000 Baht in Total
The “Uncontaminated Breath” Project — a CSR activity of Motor Expo entering its fifth year — held a presentation ceremony to announce results and give awards to youths who had won the 2010 Contest in 5 categories, viz. essay writing, singing, calligraphy (fine handwriting), artistic drawing/painting, and honesty campaign activity under the topic “Love, unity and righteousness”.
Mr. Kwanchai Paphatphong, President and CEO of Inter-Media Consultant Co., Ltd. and Deputy Chairman of the “Uncontaminated Breath” Project, said he was happy for the youths winning education funds from the Contest which aimed to instill in young persons the true meaning of “honesty” as applicable to their daily lives.
“The word honesty is not so easy for children to understand. As a matter of fact, it does not merely mean that you find a wallet and return it to the owner but extends to being honest to yourself, your parents, teachers, friends, other people and the country. In practice, most people would view this Project as rather abstract, difficult to evaluate results or success. But we are inclined to believe it is something every section of society — state agencies, schools, families and even the private sector — should endeavour to cultivate in children from an early age because when they grow up to become honest working citizens of the country, the society will be such a better place to live in,” said Mr. Kwanchai.
In the recent 27th Motor Expo, the organizer set aside a portion of the admission ticket sales on the first day (December 1, 2010) — designated the “Grand Charity Day” — as contribution to the “Uncontaminated Breath” Project in order for it to continue functioning continuously into its 5th year.
Chamaiporn Paphatphong, Director of “Uncontaminated Breath” Project, said the Project was entering its 5th year of building up the thought process of young persons to think and act in an honest way, starting from primary onto university level. Last year the target group was expanded to cover vocational education level also, and it was gratifying that the response was excellent. Last year about 3,500 youths joined in the activities organized by the Project’s mobile unit that made school visits in Bangkok (the number was 2,272 in 2009).
From an audit of the Project’s performance during the past 4 years, it transpires that success of campaigns for honesty in children would depend on having a combination of appropriate syllabus, theory of learning and communication. So it is essential to have an expert child psychologist on the team. In this regard, the Project enlisted the help of Khun Pattaracharee Aiyasiri or “Na Nid”, founder of the “Phueng Noi Club” — a platform to encourage children to express themselves. “Na Nid” or “Ya Nid”, an icon of children, now runs a radio show for primary children on FM 105 Mhz. Many other child psychologists have also participated to help with the “Uncontaminated Breath” Project in its 5th year.
The Project Director added that she wanted schools all over the country to encourage their pupils to apply for the 5th annual Contest of the “Uncontaminated Breath” Project that will be open for application soon.
